How do I pick a gift?

Buying a gift for kids can be downright difficult. Imagine being in the store and forced to go through every single item on the shelf, trying to find just the right one — only giving up because you cannot decide between two similar toys. Or you have bought a gift, but the kid already has one.

Most often, I have to choose a gift for someone else (whether my kids’ friends, relatives’ children or my own sister’s baby). My selection is mostly random, because it isn’t easy to understand the child’s interests.  I have always found shopping for my kids quite difficult. Overwhelmed by the masses of toys, I could never make up my mind, no matter how much time I spent on it. I had too many factors to consider – age, gender, interests… It was too much!

Think Out of the Box, But Don't Go Overboard

One way to overcome the difficulty of choosing a gift for a kid is to think outside the box, come up with original and creative ideas, and give your gift a personal touch.  To navigate through this maze is to start with the basics. If you have a kid of your own who’s going to receive a gift on his birthday, take some time to figure out what he or she really needs, and what they will be happy to get. The first thing here is not to go overboard, just focus on the basics because kids can get overwhelmed with too many toys at the same time. Also, it’s usually better not to give something too complex or sophisticated, as parents most likely won’t spend an hour teaching how to use something before the kid loses interest.

Common sense would tell you to buy gifts that are age appropriate, but it can be hard to know what to look for. Toys have different recommended ages on their packaging as well, but the difference between a 4-year-old and 5-year-old may not be as dramatic as you think. That’s why we’ve put together this guide of the best toys for different age ranges, so that next time you need to shop for gifting, it will be easy and enjoyable.

Check with the Parents

When searching for the best gift idea, take into consideration the child’s age and interests. Older children will adore fairy tale toys and games. If you are searching for a birthday gift, you could even opt for something unique, perhaps a dance workshop or tuition. The earlier you make the preparations for the event, the more options you have open to you. After all, there is always a risk that the original toy will go under some heavy discount!

In short, your need for a gift that is good, non-toxic and useful. Check out wooden painted toys from Sadora Baby that are non-toxic other than developmental and educational to make life easier. It sometimes helps if you can ask the parents what their child’s hobbies are (if you are shopping for an older child) and choose something from a field that child excelled in or has shown interest in.

A great toy is crafted with careful attention to color, size, material, durability, development age and fun factor.  The best "present" you can offer your child is to make sure they have a childhood full of joy, laughter and fun.

So, if you haven’t had time to handcraft a gift or pick out the perfect toy, there are still some amazing gifts out there that make pretty good alternatives.  For example, some of the educational puzzles from Sadora Baby are so much fun and will definitely last.  We’ve done the research. We’ve done the thinking. And we’re ready to share our knowledge with you. We’ve put together an exhaustive product list for parents looking to reward their budding genius with an incredible toy this holiday season.
